The Aries Equinox

The Autumnal Aries Equinox will occur in Hobart at 8.01pm 20 March 2025 in Tasmania, and the Vernal or spring equinox will occur at 9.01UTC in the Northern Hemisphere today. What a day to celebrate nature and how valuable she is to us.

Today marks the change of season from Summer to Autumn, a time of gratitude for what we have harvested and a time to prepare for the coming winter.

There are many things about life that we’ve moved away from, especially nature. Do the children know where peas or milk come from besides the supermarket and the procedures required to grow our food and then get them to the supermarket? We are removed from the process of harvesting our food, including the part that death has. We have become so removed that it’s very challenging for some to even think about how food is mass produced. The knowledge of the processes are kept behind closed doors, and why is that?

In days gone by we grew our own food and in ceremony and gratitude harvested our own animals. Nothing was wasted, not one thing. When you grow your own food you learn to preserve the abundance or share it with neighbours. The family became involved in turning the abundance into things like pickles, tomato sauce, wine or cider from the apples and that could be turned into apple cider vinegar. The family would enjoy the entire process and the feeling of connection and contribution were also in abundance. There wouldn’t be anything in the back of the fridge going mouldy or outdated that had to be thrown away, container and all.

Modern life hey… it’s great in some ways and not in others, and it’s a choice for sure. We have the choice to grow our own food, if not all just something to feel and taste the difference that home grown food provides. The nutrient level would also be much higher than tasteless mass produced veggies. It might be fun for the kids to have a little veggie patch or to grow some sprouts inside on the window seal or on the balcony on your high rise apartment.

Perhaps today we can take a few moments in gratitude for nature and the gifts she provides. Place our bare feet upon the Earth and thank Gaia for providing everything we need to live on this beautiful planet.

It seems we are always taking from the Earth….. what do we give back to her, just Food for thought… Let me know in the comments if you have a veg garden, preserve your own food or what is your best tip for reducing household waste?

I hope you have a beautiful Autumnal Equinox and find balance within yourself and your life during this time. This is my most favourite season as the days are calm and the temperature is perfect, the nights are cold and the days are sunny, equilibrium is achieved.

Blessings to you,

Kym
